The Rafinator is looking good to take the prize for the open with some very good chances doing the same at the upcoming French Open.

Nadal is king of the clay courts, but he says it’s been tough with the long back to back matches. By his sidelining himself for so long last year looks to be a very smart move and taking time on his road back seems to be the right thing for him. Fans are more than happy to see him back fighting his way to top form and back in the ranks where we’re used to seeing him.

Number 28 ranked tennis player in the world Grigor Dimitrov surprised everyone by knocking Novak Djokovic out of the 2013 Italian Open. The world’s top ranked player had this to say about the match. “For this tournament, I didn’t prepare myself so good, but I’m not trying to find any excuses,” Djokovic said.

Continuing his winning streak after a slow start earlier this week against Ernests Bulbis, Rafael Nadal took out fellow Spaniard David Ferrer taking him on to the semi-finals. Many were wondering if the tennis star would recover enough after last years sideline from his ankle injury, but he’s proving that’s he’s ready to get back to his old self.

It was a great match and Ferrer gave Nadal a run for his money, but it just wasn’t enough for the Rafinator. Novak Djokovic was surprisingly taken out of the Open by Czech Tomas Berdych, who’ll go up against Rafael now. Djokovic has pretty much let it be known that his poor form guaranteed a French Open triumph for the bounce back tennis star.

He still came out on top defeating Latvian Ernests Gulbis 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 getting him to the Italian Open quarterfinals. Nadal’s performance, and sometimes sluggish movement on the court, raises questions about whether he will be able to successfully defend his title at the French Open. The year’s second Grand Slam starts in 10 days.

Number 2 ranked tennis player Andy Murray had a rough birthday today, but he’s had an amazing year after showing the world that he had the right stuff at the 2012 London Olympics along with the U.S. Open. He’s toppled Roger Federer, but today he had to retire injured against Marcel Granollers at the Italian Open.

Other big birthdays today are for the Sopranos Jamie-Lynn Sigler and former Pussycat Dolls Jessica Sutta who quickly learned what it was like to grow up after being ousted from the group. In other sports our Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau hits 33 today.

Rafael Nadal may have been out of commission letting his ankle heal for seven months, but as expected, he’s bounced back and won his third Madrid Title after defeating Stanislas Wawrinka. This puts him at five titles since returning to the courts in February. The ankle injury resulted in the Spaniard dropping to a world ranking of number five

After being sidelined for seven months, Nadal has reached seven consecutive finals, winning five. He now has three Madrid titles, but “this victory is even more special considering how complicated this year has been,” Nadal said.

Ryan Lochte showed that he does much better in the water than in the TV ratings war with his What Would Ryan Lochte Do? reality show. The 11-time Olympics medalist placed third twice this weekend in the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke. He seemed to be leading but all that energy faded in the final 50 meters. Lochte has just recently returned to training full time now that production on his show has wrapped. Since E! isn’t looking to renew the low rated show, he’ll have plenty of more training time leading up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
